- Suspected Fulani herdsmen have attacked Owode Ede, a community in Sagamu local government area of Ogun state, leaving the village head, Baale Adeoye Kolawole dead and several injured.
The event which occurred around 10pm, on Tuesrday, lasted about six hours, just as residents have abandoned the village when our reporters visited the scene.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun state Security Network (Amotekun Corps), Commander, Acting Commander, Aina Olukayode, said investigation have since commenced to bring to book the perpetrators of the act.
“We received the distress call earlier in the day, but when our men got to the scene the villagers had disserted the community.
“The bodies of the deceaseds have been deposited at the Sagamu general Hospital”, he said
Meanwhile, speaking from her hiding, one of the wife of the village head, Mrs Ajoke Idayat Oyeshile. said the attacker were after her family, saying that her husband had earlier prevented the suspected herdsmen from taking over their farm land.
She narrated that the suspected attackers kept shouting “kill all of them”, “Don’t spare his family “, adding that it only took God intervention for her to escape into the forest.
“We had loud noise around 10pm from our sleep. In a split moment everywhere became chaotic, and people started running. They shot him (my husband) at close range, and dragged him out while looking for us.
“How I escape till date still marvel me, and I can only say it’s God’s mercy. I have been receiving threat messages, saying they know where I am and will get me killed fo wipe my family off.
” It is the reason I cannot disclose my whereabouts to anyone, am sorry. I cannot stay in one place for too long as I am still a target. I am not sure if they succeeded in killing my other wives”, she added
As at the time of filing this report, no one had returned to the community when our reporter visited the scene again.
