Unidentified gunmen attacked Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat in Anambra State early Saturday morning, burning about six vehicles, including four patrol vehicles belonging to vigilante operatives.
The gunmen arrived on motorcycles and in a vehicle, shooting indiscriminately but were met with resistance from vigilante operatives and the police response team . No casualties were reported, and the security forces are currently conducting operations to apprehend the attackers.

The attack has been described as an act of cowardice by Anambra State Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam.
“The hoodlums, numbering about 20, stormed the secretariat around 1:45 am, shooting sporadically and setting the vehicles ablaze,” a source said.
The source added that the gunmen also attempted to gain access to the main building but were repelled by the security operatives.
“The vigilante operatives and police responded quickly, chasing the attackers away,” the source said.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, who visited the scene, condemned the attack, describing it as an act of cowardice.
“It’s an unfortunate incident, but we are on top of it. We will not allow such acts to happen in Anambra State,” he said.
The police commissioner assured that the perpetrators would be brought to book, adding that investigations were already underway.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it is believed to be the work of some criminal elements operating in the state.
The attack on Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat is the latest in a series of attacks on government facilities and security operatives in Anambra State in recent times.
The state government has promised to do everything possible to ensure the security of lives and property in the state.
The attack is coming at a time when the state is enjoying relative peace, and it is seen as a calculated attempt to disrupt the peace in the state.
The government of Anambra State has assured the public that it will do everything possible to ensure that the perpetrators of the attack are brought to justice.
