Kano Govt Defies Court Ruling, Insists Sanusi Remains Emir

The Kano State government has declared that Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir of Kano, despite a court ruling that reinstated deposed Emir Ado Bayero and annulled the state government’s reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

According to a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, the court ruling validates the law that abolished the five emirates created in 2019 and the deposition of the five emirs.

Garba explained that the court’s decision only nullified the appointment of the new emirs, but did not reinstate the deposed emirs, including Ado Bayero.

He directed the state Commissioner of Police to remove the deposed emir from the government property where he is trespassing.

The government’s stance comes after a Kano High Court ruled that the deposition of Emir Ado Bayero and the creation of new emirates were null and void.

The court also ordered the state government to reinstate the deposed emirs, including Ado Bayero, but the government insists that Sanusi remains the rightful Emir of Kano.
