Vigilante Commander Arrested With Human Skulls In Rivers State

The Rivers State Police Command arrested Felix Nwaobakata, commander of a local vigilante group, the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee (OSPAC), along with seven other members of the group.

The police arrested Nwaobakata at his hideout in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, and found two human skulls and other human parts in his possession.

Nwaobakata is a suspect in the murder of two brothers in Idu, Rivers State, on May 1, 2024, who were killed by OSPAC on the allegation that they were kidnappers.

The brothers’ motorcycles were confiscated, and their bodies were taken to the OSPAC secretariat in Omoku.

The arrests were made after numerous complaints about the operations of OSPAC in different parts of Rivers State, especially in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA.

The police also reported that operatives of OSPAC attacked a police division in Omoku and clashed with other security agencies.

The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Okon Effiong, said the command would no longer tolerate the illegal activities of vigilante groups in the state.

Effiong stated that the police would continue to clamp down on the activities of OSPAC and other vigilante groups operating in the state until they surrendered their weapons and ceased their illegal operations.

He added that the police had recovered several weapons, including pump-action guns, cartridges, and other dangerous weapons from the vigilante group.

The Commissioner also warned that anyone found to be involved in vigilantism or illegal activities would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

The development comes after several complaints from residents of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA about the excesses of OSPAC, who they accused of engaging in kidnapping, murder, and other criminal activities.

The arrest of Nwaobakata and his men has been hailed by residents of the area, who expressed relief that the police had finally taken action against the vigilante group.
