Anglican Bishop Urges President Tinubu to Address Economic Hardship and Security Challenges

Revd Stephen Fagbemi, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Owo, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address the severe economic hardship and security challenges facing Nigerians. In a passionate plea, the bishop highlighted the devastating impact of the current economic situation, which has left many citizens struggling to make ends meet and facing unprecedented levels of pain and frustration.

“Unless urgent and effective steps are taken to curtail the effects of the current economic situation, Nigeria may witness an uncontrollable rise in crime,” the bishop warned. “Nigeria has become a harder place to live in, with many people leaving the country for greener pastures while many are finding themselves in difficult situations where they fled to.”

The bishop noted that the economic hardship has been exacerbated by the sudden removal of petroleum subsidy and the devaluation and instability of the foreign exchange, leading to inflation and astronomical prices of goods and commodities. “It has become hard for people to feed their families. Perhaps only very few wealthy individuals can claim to be comfortable at the moment,” he lamented.

The bishop urged the government to work harder at diversifying the economy, addressing unemployment, and reducing the burden of economic hardship on Nigerians. “We urge our government to work harder at diversifying our economy. Already, it is evident that unemployment is very high, as so many graduates are walking about without any job or means of livelihood. This makes the future look bleak and hopeless for many,” he said.
