A 17-year-old boy was electrocuted while working with his stepfather at a building construction site in Lagos State. The Police Command in Lagos confirmed the incident, which occurred on August 2, 2024, at Church Street, Alagbado.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the boy’s mother reported the case to the Agbado Police Division at 1:00 p.m. on August 2. She stated that she had received a phone call from her younger brother about the incident at 12:30 p.m. on the same day.

The woman reported that her son had followed her husband (his stepfather), a welder by profession, to build a scaffolding in a building under construction at Church Street, Alagbado. In the process of work, the boy stepped on a live wire that was carelessly connected from an electric pole and died on the spot.

Hundeyin said, “He was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. The scene was visited by a team of detectives from the division. The corpse has been removed from the scene. However, no mark of violence was seen. The stepfather has been brought to the station for questioning. Investigation is ongoing.”

The incident highlights the importance of safety measures and proper electrical connections at construction sites to prevent such tragic accidents.
