Nigerian rapper Oladips has accused Grammy-winning singer Wizkid of intellectual property theft. The rapper alleged that Wizkid sampled part of the lyrics of his song ‘Ajala Travel remix’ in his recent collaboration with Asake, ‘MMS.’
Oladips shared screenshots of the lyrics from the two songs via his Instagram account, highlighting the similarities between the two. A fan told him that sampling was “normal,” but Oladips insisted that it’s only normal when authorized.
“It’s normal if you acknowledge the source! No be say dem go dey pretend like say dem no know you but come dey bite your lyrics for corner,” Oladips wrote.
Wizkid is yet to react to the allegations.
This is not the first time Wizkid has been accused of lyrical theft. In the past, he has been criticized for borrowing lyrics and melodies from other artists without giving them proper credit.
Oladips’ accusation has sparked a debate about creativity and originality in the music industry. Some fans have come to Wizkid’s defense, arguing that all artists borrow inspiration from others and that it’s impossible to create something completely original. Others have praised Oladips for speaking out and demanding credit for his work.
