FG Has Turned Nigerians Into Beggars Through Palliatives —Afe Babalola

Founder of Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola, has criticized the Federal Government’s distribution of palliatives, describing it as an attempt to turn Nigerians into beggars and lead them to poverty.

Babalola made this known when the Prestige Sisters League visited him at the ABUAD campus. He expressed support for the Patriots’ call for a new constitution, suggesting that the parliament should reenact the 1963 constitution.

Regarding the recent protests across the country, Babalola acknowledged the sincerity of those complaining about hunger, stating that the government should listen to them. He emphasized that the government’s duty is to ensure the welfare of the people, and that the current situation of hunger and insecurity is a result of government failure.

Babalola criticized the government’s approach of sharing food items as palliatives, saying it discourages people from working and leads to poverty. He advocated for the government to provide an enabling environment for people to work and feed themselves.

On the Patriots’ call for a new constitution, Babalola agreed that Nigeria needs a new constitution but suggested that it can be achieved by reenacting the 1963 constitution through the parliament, rather than holding a constitutional conference.
