Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has reacted to the claim of his Igbo paternity, saying it makes him laugh. He also emphasized that no one should be driven away from any part of Nigeria, declaring, “we own this country together.”
Obasanjo made this statement while receiving the leadership of Ndigbo Amaka Progressive Market Association at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The group sought his support for the establishment of the Owerri Central Market, which he acknowledged had been contemplated since the creation of Imo State.
Obasanjo expressed his commitment to the project, saying it would be a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. He also assured the group that he doesn’t believe anyone should be driven away from any part of the country, recalling his role in the civil war to unite Nigeria.
The group’s spokesperson, Chief Emeka Dallas Emmanuel, sought Obasanjo’s help in actualizing the international market and assisting their members in obtaining loans to purchase shops and spaces at the market.
Obasanjo’s statement comes amidst the controversy surrounding the #IgboMustGo trend, which he has now addressed, reiterating his commitment to national unity and inclusiveness.
