Clampdown on Hunger, Insecurity Hurting Nigerians — Female Lawyers

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has urged President Bola Tinubu to find lasting solutions to the soaring prices of food and insecurity across the country. The female lawyers stated this in a communique after its 39th Annual National Conference held in Akure, Ondo State.

The communique reads: “The Conference is worried about the high cost of food, goods, and services in the country and is concerned that women carry the bulk of the problems. FOMWAN notes with great concern the rising pace of insecurity in the country. These challenges are a result of our deviation from Allah’s injunction that when a community engages in corruption, Allah has promised that it would be visited with famine and insecurity.”

FOMWAN urged women to acquire education, skills, and participate in politics to increase their chances of getting paid appointments and self-sustaining activities. They also called for collaboration with government institutions and non-governmental organizations to facilitate active participation in agriculture and employment opportunities for women and girls.

The government was advised to enforce the law on criminals and ensure a safe environment for women to carry out their activities. FOMWAN affirmed the need for women to have a safe environment to impact their wellbeing.
