The Federal Government has warned youths against involvement in illicit drugs, citing its dangers to human survival.
Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, issued the warning in Ado-Ekiti at a sensitization event on eliminating drug and substance abuse for young boys and girls in the southern zone.
Represented by Director Alhaji Alu Mohammed, Ibrahim stated:
“This event aligns with the United Nations’ stance on drugs and crimes, aiming for a drug-free society.”
“The government will eradicate hard drugs, tackling social factors influencing substance abuse, such as peer pressure and bad company.”
Studies show a rise in substance abuse among youths, driven by various social factors.
Ibrahim called on state governments and stakeholders to collaborate with the Federal Government in combating drug abuse.
Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Adeola Adebayo, thanked the Federal Government for hosting the event in the state and pledged cooperation in eradicating drug abuse.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug and substance abuse and promote evidence-based prevention, treatment, and care among young people.
