Save Nigeria From Total Collapse – Afenifere to FG

The Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, has urged the Federal Government to take immediate action to save Nigeria from collapse, citing widespread concern over the nation’s deteriorating state since President Bola Tinubu’s administration took office.

In a communique issued after a quarterly meeting in Ogun State, Afenifere’s Deputy Leader, Oladipo Olaitan, and Deputy Secretary General, Alade Rotimi-John, expressed alarm over the country’s dire situation.

According to Afenifere, Nigerians are struggling with:

– Pervasive hardship
– Crippling hunger
– Unremitting insecurity
– Runaway inflation
– Massive unemployment

The group criticized the government’s handling of public revenue, highlighting several extravagant expenditures, including:

– $100m (N240 billion) for an Airbus A330 jet for the President
– $50m to retrofit the jet
– N950m each for armoured Cadillac Escalade Limousine SUVs
– N21 billion for renovating a new mansion for the Vice President
– N90 billion as subsidy for religious pilgrimage
– N10 billion to renovate the Presidential Lodge at Ribadu Road, Lagos

“Afenifere is scandalised by the government’s reckless spending and poor international image,” the group stated. “We are puzzled by the administration’s diversionary tactics, which lull the people into complacency amidst grave national circumstances and widespread criticism of its handling of governance.”
