The President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has narrated his ordeal while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies.
Ajaero confirmed that his phones and international passport, seized during his arrest and detention, had been returned to him by the DSS.
He described his experience as embarrassing, stating that the DSS arrested him on behalf of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) department of the Police.
“The same IRT operatives… came and asked the same questions I was asked in the previous meeting with them,” Ajaero said.
During interrogation, Ajaero was asked about:
– The operator of the Iva Valley Bookshop on the second floor of NLC secretariat building
– Communication with Eleojo Opaluwa, a staff of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE)
– The Labour Party and its relationship with NLC
– The issue of Air Peace, which was settled last year
Ajaero stated that the security agents were searching for evidence to “nail” him and the NLC.
“They asked about the Labour Party, LP, whether we are running the party. I told them we do not run the Labour Party, but that we are a trustee of the party,” he explained.
Ajaero emphasized that the Labour Party was founded during Adams Oshiomhole’s presidency of NLC.
