The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a notorious suspect, Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, who has been on the police wanted list for armed robbery and alleged rape of female students at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, Olayemi was apprehended by the Igbeba Division, Ijebu-Ode, after an intelligence report revealed his presence in the university area.
Odutola stated, “Following a tip-off that one Olayemi Olawale Shedrack, aged 33, was sighted in Ijagun, trying to conceal himself among other citizens, but his identity was immediately confirmed by intelligence, and the police were contacted. In swift action, he was apprehended.”
Olayemi was allegedly involved in an armed robbery and rape incident on July 21, 2024, where he and his cohorts broke into a female hostel, Royal Villa accommodation area, and robbed students of luxury items, including laptops, iPhones, sports wristwatches, and cash. He also allegedly raped one of the female students.
The police commissioner, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has directed that Olayemi’s cohorts be arrested and appealed to the Ijagun community to provide credible information to assist in tracking down other members of the criminal gang.
Olayemi is currently being held at the Igbeba police station for interrogation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
