LAGOS — The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, civil society organizations, CSOs, and others have demanded the immediate reversal of the recent petrol price hike.
The hike, implemented by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, has sparked widespread criticism, with many arguing it will exacerbate the already high inflation rate and worsen the economic plight of Nigerians.
NACCIMA President Dele Oye stated that the increase will lead to higher transportation costs, freight charges, and inflation, ultimately affecting micro, small and medium enterprises, MSMEs.
The PDP has also called for the reversal of the hike, urging the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to review its policies and address the economic challenges facing Nigerians.
Atiku described President Tinubu as “T-pain,” saying he is undisturbed by the hardship in Nigeria.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the Senate will intervene if necessary.
The Joint Action Front, JAF, condemned the hike and called on the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, to lead the fight against it.
Other organizations, including the Movement for a Socialist Alternative, MSA, African Network for Environmental and Economic Justice, ANEEJ, and Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, also criticized the hike.
The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, leader Olufemi Oguntoyinbo urged President Tinubu to reverse the hike.
The #EndBadGovernance movement demanded the immediate reversal of the hike.
