The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the killers of Adeleke Adeyinka, a councillorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Adeyinka, who was contesting the councillorship seat of Ward 15 in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was reportedly shot dead by suspected cultists in the early hours of Saturday.
According to National Reports, the assailants arrived in an unmarked vehicle, shot Adeyinka at close range, and later smashed his head with stones until they confirmed he was dead.
The 40-year-old victim was a transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta.
Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that the police had commenced an investigation into the killing.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
