The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will announce its decision on the botched AFCON qualifying Group D match between Libya and Nigeria on Wednesday.

The match, scheduled for Benina Martyrs Stadium on October 15, was canceled hours before kickoff. Libya Al-Ahrar Channel reports that CAF will announce its decision regarding the players’ ordeal during the first leg in Nigeria, which ended 1-0 in favor of the Super Eagles, and the reverse fixture.

The Libyan Football Federation submitted all relevant documents to CAF, with a specialized lawyer assigned to supervise the Libyan file.

CAF delisted the fixture from its calendar after announcing its cancellation and referred the matter to the Disciplinary Committee for consideration.

The Libyan Football Federation denounced Nigeria’s measures regarding the team’s refusal to play, stating it would take all legal measures to preserve the national team’s interests.

Nigeria arrived for the match on October 14, but their flight was diverted to Al Abraq International Airport, about three hours away from Benghazi. The Libyan authorities held them captive for approximately 17 hours before they flew back to Nigeria.

Nigeria lodged a complaint with CAF, describing their ordeal. The Libyan Federation claimed Nigeria did not cooperate and that their experience was “child’s play” compared to Libya’s experience in Nigeria for the first leg.

CAF described the Nigerian team’s treatment as “extremely dangerous” and contacted Libyan and Nigerian authorities. The matter was referred to the disciplinary committee to investigate and take action against those who violated regulations.
