The launch of Luban-Mozi College in Nigeria’s Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone has marked a significant milestone in China-Nigeria cooperation in vocational education and agriculture as gathered by Nationalreports.
The college is a joint initiative between Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Weifang Vocational College in China, and the Management Company of the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone.
Our correspondent reports that during the visit to the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone by the Vice Chancellor from Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and Vice President from Weifang Vocational College in China, along with Beijing World Skills Ascending Youth Education Technology and the Management Company of the Free Trade Zone, jointly signed the “Cooperative Construction Agreement for Luban-Mozi College.”
This signing marks the first vocational education overseas project and international capacity cooperation initiative since the establishment of the China-Nigeria Industry-Education Consortium in September 2024.
At the signing ceremony, Top Agriculture Technology FZE—the registered enterprise in the FTZ—along with Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Weifang Vocational College, and the Management Company of the FTZ, signed a “Memorandum of Cooperation on Agricultural Implements, Agricultural Machinery, and Pesticide Production” This agreement symbolizes multifaceted cooperation between China and Nigeria in areas such as vocational education institutions, Chinese-funded enterprise parks, and local agricultural industries.
It successfully inaugurates a new “industry-education-research-investment” model, marking a significant step forward in high-quality cooperation between the two countries. According to this agreement, Top Agriculture Technology FZE will act as the investor, providing strong financial support for the product development, technology research, and market launch of the project.
This cooperation model facilitates the final link in the internationalization of vocational education, industry-education integration, talent cultivation, new product development, and market entry, while also boosting momentum for progress.
In the “Joint Statement on Establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Building a High-Level China-Nigeria Community of Shared Future” released on September 3, the two countries expressed their commitment to advancing human resource training in the cultural field and strengthening cooperation across various sectors.
The Ban Mo Academy’s agricultural cooperation project is a concrete implementation of the spirit of this declaration.
Liu Zhigang, Deputy General Manager of the Management Company of the Free Trade Zone, expressed his emphasis on and expectations for this cooperation.
Firstly, the FTZ will actively implement the tasks outlined in the two memorandums that require its coordination, while continuing to strengthen communication and cooperation with domestic universities, Nigerian institutions, and enterprises in the FTZ. With the help of Weifang Vocational College’s standardized teaching system, it is believed that, as these two projects are successfully implemented in the FTZ, vocational education and agricultural professional training in Nigeria will continue to improve.
This will help cultivate more local employees who are proficient in Chinese, possess professional skills, and meet the staffing needs of Chinese enterprises in the FTZ, thereby gradually improving the productivity and overall quality of employees in the enterprises, and ensuring the growth of these businesses. Secondly, the FTZ will actively explore innovation, attempt diverse cooperation models, and continue to promote China-Nigeria education and cultural exchanges, creating a platform for cooperation in education, industry, and research and development, offering continuous support for the development of Chinese enterprises in Nigeria.
Finally, the FTZ will continue to build a “friendly externally, harmonious internally” China-Nigeria model community, ensuring the smooth progress of all cooperation projects and making a positive contribution to the exchanges and cooperation between China and Nigeria in various fields.
The establishment of the “Luban-Mozi College” and the signing and launch of a series of cooperation agreements will fully leverage the roles of all parties involved. Through joint research projects, collaborative market product development, and other initiatives, the optimization and sharing of educational resources will be achieved, promoting talent cultivation, research and development incubation, and product commercialization. This marks the opening of a new path for cross-border cooperation between China and Nigeria in the fields of education and agriculture, and will become a unique and innovative case in China’s vocational education internationalization process.
