The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the appointment of Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles. This decision was reached at a meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Chelle, who previously coached Mali’s senior national team, will be responsible for guiding the Super Eagles to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. His first assignment will be in March when the Super Eagles face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the next round of qualifiers.

Chelle’s Experience and Achievements

During his tenure as Mali’s head coach, Chelle led the team to a quarter-final finish at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire. Although they were defeated by the host nation in extra time, Chelle’s emotional response to the loss showcased his passion and dedication to the team.

Before coaching Mali, Chelle managed several clubs in the lower tiers of French football, including GS Consolat, FC Martigues, and Boulogne. As a player, Chelle represented Mali’s senior national team five times and featured for French clubs such as Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais.

Chelle’s appointment marks a fresh start for the Super Eagles, and fans hope his international experience and ability to work under pressure will translate into success for Nigeria.
