Vice Chairman finance and appropriation in the Ogun State House of Assembly Hon. Wahab Abiodun Egungbohun has mourned the passage of the First Female Minister in Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Adenike Ebun Oyagbola, who is also the first Iyalode of Yewaland.
Chief. Oyagbola was born in 1931 in Igan-Alade town, Yewa North local government area of Ogun State.
A statement issued today by Hon. Egungbohun described Late Oyagbola as a kind woman, dedicated to the welfare of Yewaland, noting that she will forever be remembered.
The lawmaker also extended his condolences to late Oyagbola family, Yewa people and the entire Ogun State, praying that God grants them strength and comfort during this difficult time.
Our correspondent gathered that Late Oyagbola had her early education in her hometown and later trained at a Teacher Training College at Ilaro.
She taught briefly at Yewa and Mushin before traveling to the United Kingdom for further studies, where she bagged a degree in Accounting.
Oyagbola joined the Federal Civil Service in 1963 and was later appointed a cabinet member of the Shehu Shagari administration. She was the only female cabinet member at the time, making her the First Female Minister in Nigeria.
Oyagbola served as the Minister of National Planning from December 1979 to October 1983.
