Ogun State born winner of the 2024 Miss Blind Nigeria, Miss Ogunshina Deborah Oluwatosin has appealed to Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, well meaning individuals and corporate organisations to support her in order to execute her vision and projects.
Miss Deborah stated that her vision and projects are to advocate for the welfarism of people living with visual impairment, most especially ladies and the children.
It could be recalled that Miss Blind Nigeria contest proudly won by Deborah, an indigene of Ogun State from Yewa North Local Government was held during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with the theme ‘Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future’ on December 3rd, 2024.
Similarly, the contest which featured participants across the 36 states including Federal Capital Territory (FCT) organised by Bathesda School and Home for the Blind, Agege, Lagos State saw the emergence of Imo State and Anambra State coming second and third representatively in the beauty contest.
Miss Deborah, a 300 level student of the University of Ibadan, Department of Special Education/English Language while responding to journalists then said she was happy to make herself, family and Ogun State proud despite being visually impaired, noting that though the tasks wasn’t easy but God made it possible.
“I felt accomplished as Miss Blind Nigeria. This beauty contest would no doubt help to promote inclusivity and welfarism for persons with visual impairment across Nigeria and I want to encourage my fellow people not to look down on themselves but always be willing to take up challenges that would better their lives,” she said.
Also speaking at the event was the Coordinator of the programme and founder of Bethesda School and Home for the Blind, Rev (Dr.) Chioma Ohakwe who congratulated the winner and other contestants for participating in the pageant, saying the idea of the contest was to encourage visually impaired people not to limit themselves but strive to achieve excellence.
