The Ogun pensioners under the aegis of Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN), Ogun State Chapter has lauded the Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun on the release of the sum of N3.5billion naira to the Bureau of Local Government Pensions for the payment of areas of gratuities for year 2016.
In a open letter signed by Pastor Benedict A. Ademoye and Otunba Korede A. Lamidi, the State Chairman and State Secretary respectively, dated 7th May, 2025 and addressed to the governor, the pensioners described the gestleader another landmark action that shows the governor as a humane and compassionate leader.
The letter further reads, “Your excellency, please permit us to count our blessings since the historic meeting you held with the leadership of our association on the 16th of August 2022 under the leadership of our late chairman Elder (Chief) Sikuru Akangbe Ayilara. At this time sir, minimum pension was N5,000.00 per month. You were releasing the sum of 500 million naira per quarter for the payment of arrears of gratuities.
“Consequent upon that meeting sir, and given the spirit of benevolence and kindness in you as our leader in Ogun State, you started a geometric increase of quarterly release of funds as follows:
1. N600 million naira per quarter for the 4th quarter of 2022
2. You constituted a committee to see to cases of pensioners that have medical emergency and release fund for their treatment from their accrued gratuities. These have saved hundreds of pensioners and stopped avoidable deaths amongst us.
3. Minimum pension was tentatively increased to N10,000.00 per month in February 2023.
4. Immediately after the commencement of your second term in office in May, 2023 you increased quarterly release to N1billion naira.
5. In the first quarter of 2024, you increased quarterly release to N2.0billion
6a. In the 4th quarter of 2024, you released N2.7billion for the settlement of arrears of gratuities
6b. In this same quarter, you increased minimum pension to N30,000.00 per month and awarded an increase of N20,000.00 on monthly pension for all the pensioners in Ogun State, (Local Government Pensioners inclusive.)
7. In the first quarter of 2025, you approved the release of N3.5billion naira for the payment of arrears of gratuities.
8. Above all, since you assumed office as the Executive Governor of Ogun State in May 29th, 2019 monthly pensions are paid as at when due. Payment had not failed even for one month like in the immediate past.
“Arising from the foregoing Your Excellency, you and your government have transformed the lives of all the pensioners in Ogun State particularly the Local Government Pensioners. You have wiped off our tears. You have restored our hope.
“Mr. Governor Sir, we appreciate you. We thank you most sincerely.
Gold and sliver we do not have, but what we have we shall give unto you sir,
The Almighty God shall bless you and your family. Ogun State shall soar to greater heights under your able leadership.
“Your Excellency, LOGPAN note with delight that when you speak, you walk the talk. This is a hallmark of a sincere, reliable and trustworthy leader. We are senior citizens. We are elders. Nigeria is getting better.
“We are not unmindful of your good work when you are the chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Your footprint is still indelible in that commission. Your current activities as a trusted and tested leader across the nation is also noted.
“It is our hope and prayer that after your stewardship as Executive Governor of Ogun State in May 2027, the sky is your beginning in the Nigerian political space.
