The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has donated three acres of land to the International Council for Ifa Religion (ICIR) for the construction of the World Ifa Temple. This gesture is aimed at promoting Yoruba traditional religion and establishing the largest pilgrimage destination for Ifa and Orisa worshippers globally.
In a letter of appreciation, ICIR President Dr. Fayemi Fakayode confirmed the donation, noting that the land is located around Stadium Area, Route 7, Ile-Ife, Osun State and is currently being cleared for construction.
The council, headquartered at Oke-Itase, Ile-Ife, had made a formal request to the monarch for land to realize their vision of building the Largest World Ifa Temple in the historic Yoruba city.
Fakayode praised the Ooni’s commitment to Yoruba heritage, stating, “On behalf of the Council of Araba and Oluwo, under the Chairmanship of His Eminence, Owolabi Awodotun Aworeni, the Araba/Olu-Isese Agbaye, and all practitioners of Ifa and Orisa worldwide, we thank His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II for this good and historic gesture.”
He further highlighted that the temple would not only showcase Oduduwa’s cultural and spiritual legacy but also serve as a major global pilgrimage site for Yoruba traditionalists.
“With this step, Ooni’s commitment to preserving and promoting Oduduwa’s cultural heritage and spirituality is obvious to all to see,” he said.
This development marks a significant move in globalizing Yoruba spirituality and strengthening the identity of indigenous religion.
