Lagos — Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Teni, has described music as more than just a talent, calling it a divine assignment. Speaking at WithChudeLive, a talk concert hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo in Lagos, Teni shared personal insights into her journey and creative process.

Appearing on a panel alongside skit makers Taaooma and Kiekie, the award-winning artist explained that she sees herself as a vessel through which God delivers songs to the world.

“Music is my passion. That’s what keeps me going,” she said. “Everyone wants to be number one, but I’ve come to understand that I can’t rush the process. Hit songs come from God. I’m just a vessel He uses to deliver them.”

Teni, known for her energetic performances and hit songs like Uyo Meyo, said she no longer feels pressured by commercial expectations, choosing instead to focus on purpose and timing.

She revealed that her popular track Money was written five years before it was eventually released, but she waited for the right moment to share it with the world.

“I wrote Money five years ago,” she said. “It just wasn’t the right time to release it. I waited until I felt people needed to hear that message. When I finally dropped it, I wasn’t surprised by the reception.”

Teni also recalled testing the song during a trip to Los Angeles. “I was there for about three months, and I’d play the song anytime I got in an Uber. I wouldn’t say anything about it being mine, and the drivers would always compliment the song. That’s when I knew it had something special.”

Her comments highlighted the role of faith and patience in her creative process, reinforcing the idea that true music connects with listeners when it comes from a place of sincerity and purpose.
