The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance. In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, he said June 12 represents Nigeria’s historic journey toward building a nation founded on truth, justice, peace, and a secure future.
“The last 26 years tell the story of our resilience, strength, and courage, and a hope renewed more than ever,” the Minister noted.
He emphasized that democracy thrives with continuous efforts for improvement and reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration to uphold the universal values of democracy, which include the freely expressed will of the people in determining Nigeria’s political, economic, social, and cultural systems.
