Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering the people of the state by creating more opportunities for success.
He made this known on Sunday during the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival held at Ijebu-Ode, describing the festival as more than a cultural event but a symbol of communal harmony and heritage.
“Ojude Oba has become a dynamic engine of tourism, youth engagement, and entrepreneurship. Our administration is determined to expand its reach and impact,” the governor said.
Abiodun noted that his administration was ensuring improved access in Ijebuland and across Ogun State through infrastructure development, enhancement of educational and digital facilities, upgrading of healthcare infrastructure, and support for local enterprises.
“We’re ensuring that no community is left behind. The vibrant youths of Ijebuland, let me assure you that our government will continue to provide platforms for you to excel,” he said.
“As we celebrate Ojude Oba with horses, harmony, and heritage, let us recognise that our rich culture is not just a source of pride but a catalyst for sustainable development.”
He added that the unity and shared values of the people remained their greatest strength and essential to building a prosperous Ogun State.
“We, therefore, need to work together to build a better and more prosperous future for ourselves, our children, and generations yet unborn. Let us preserve the peace handed down by our ancestors and look forward to a future filled with opportunities, innovation, and abundance,” the governor added.
The festival, held at the Awujale Pavilion under the leadership of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, featured vibrant displays of Yoruba traditional attire made from local fabrics such as Adire, Aso Oke, Agbada, and Iro and Buba.
Over 30 male and female age groups, locally known as ‘Regbe Regbe,’ participated in the cultural parade. Each group took turns to pay homage to the Awujale, although only the leaders (Giwa and Iyalode) were allowed to access the VIP section to greet the king.
Oba Johnson Okubenu, leader of the Bobaniyi Asiwaju Akile Ijebu Okunrin group (men born between 1962 and 1964), described the 2025 festival as unique, noting improvements in the event’s setting and presentation compared to earlier editions held at the Awujale’s palace.
A female participant, Oyinkansola, said she had been preparing for the event for nearly a year and expressed excitement about the festivities. “This is my town and this is what we do every year. We are having fun and enjoying the moment,” she said.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami; the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; and former Ogun governors, Chief Olusegun Osoba and Senator Gbenga Daniel.
