25 Osun Communities Protest Deplorable Road, Seek Gov. Adeleke’s Intervention

Residents of 25 communities in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State on Monday staged a protest over the deplorable condition of their road at Kelebe, Osogbo, calling on Governor Ademola Adeleke for urgent intervention.

The protesters, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “We reject neglect,” “Gov Adeleke come to our rescue,” and “Approve construction of our road,” expressed deep frustration over the long-standing state of disrepair and neglect of the road connecting their communities.

One of the community leaders, Kehinde Olusegun, who addressed reporters at the protest venue, said the road links over two dozen communities stretching from Kelebe to the Osogbo/Ikirun road via the Kobo area of Osogbo.

“We have gathered here today to appeal to the state government for intervention on this road. The road leads to about 25 communities. For some time, we have made several efforts to make repairs. At least twice a year, we use our resources to grade the road,” Olusegun said.

He disclosed that despite multiple letters written to the government, there has been no response, only excuses about the lack of funds.

“We believe that with the little resources available, the government can still give us attention. It was the community that built the bridge over there, but it may soon collapse. The bridge is between untarred roads and may get washed away during the rainy season,” he added.

According to Olusegun, the communities involved—Aratumi, Araromi, Akogun, Okete Igbale, Asejere, Alagbede, Isundun, Olu-Omo, Ona Satia, among others—are home to more than 5,000 houses and have considerable voter strength.

He lamented the health and safety risks posed by the bad road, noting that it hinders access to emergency healthcare and forces school children to rely on motorcycles, increasing their exposure to accidents.

“Even commercial transporters avoid the road, which affects development in our communities,” he said.
