The Afro-Cultural Conference (ACC) on Thursday reaffirmed its place as a driving force in preserving African heritage, empowering young storytellers, and celebrating the continent’s rich cultural legacy.
The 2025 edition was organized by Historian Alabi Atinuke (Omidan Mitade) held at the cultural center, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Our correspondent gathered that the second edition of the event brought together a vibrant mix of tradition, creativity, and purpose under the theme “Africa’s Legacy of Yesterdays for Today and Tomorrow: Empowering the Next Generation of African Storytellers.
Representing the Ogun State Government, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Oluwasesan Fagbayi, lauded the initiative, noting its alignment with the state’s cultural preservation efforts.
According to him “What we are witnessing here is cultural sustainability in action. The Ogun State Government is proud to support platforms like this that bridge the wisdom of our ancestors with the innovation of our youth. 
He explained that we must invest in our heritage the same way we invest in our infrastructure.
In his keynote address, Associate Professor Amusa Saheed explained on the importance of narrative ownership in shaping Africa’s future.
He said “Africa’s stories must be told by Africans, through our own voices, experiences, and truths”
Prof. Saheed said the conference is not just a cultural gathering, it’s a clarion call to the youth to rise, create, and redefine the image of Africa in the global narrative.
Also speaking, HRM Oba Idris Olusola Adebowale Lamidi, the Osolo Otenibotemole II of Ado-Odo, called on traditional rulers to actively support youth-led cultural initiatives.
“Our culture is our identity, and our youth are its future. As custodians of tradition, we must encourage platforms like this that awaken ancestral pride and inspire the next generation to protect what is truly ours”, the monarch said.
Event was supported by Ameerul Muhsineen, Goodness Group, Lai Labode Heritage Foundation, Oluwalogbon Electronics, Gamay Properties, Keras Tours, amongst others.
In attendance were Hon. Oluwasesan Fagbayi (Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism), HRM Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Adisa Matemilola (Oluyalo Otileta VII), HRM Oba Idris Olusola Adebowale Lamidi (Osolo Otenibotemole II), Oba Ado (Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo), among other royal fathers, dignitaries, and cultural stakeholders.
Our correspondent reports that the overall winner of the talent hunt received a plot of land, while the first runner-up was awarded a smart TV, microwave, mop, and blender.
