Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has congratulated Muslims in the state, across Nigeria, and around the world on the beginning of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447 AH.
In a statement issued on Friday, Governor Makinde encouraged the Muslim Ummah to continue their good deeds, assuring them that their efforts would be divinely rewarded.
He noted that the Hijrah, which commemorates the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah, is a time for reflection, prayers, and intercession for the peace and progress of Oyo State and Nigeria.
The governor also urged the faithful to embrace the core values of the season—religious tolerance, harmony, and good neighbourliness—values he said have long contributed to the peaceful coexistence in Oyo State.
Makinde expressed appreciation to the Muslim community for their unwavering support since the beginning of his administration in 2019 and appealed for continued cooperation as his government pushes to complete ongoing projects.
“With 23 months left, this period is crucial for us in government to finish strong and leave behind enduring legacies,” he stated.
He added, “I celebrate with our Muslim brothers and sisters as they mark Hijrah 1447 AH, the beginning of the new Islamic Year. I urge them to keep doing the good works that Allah SWT commanded, with the assurance that they will be amply rewarded.”
He encouraged prayers for Oyo State, Nigeria, and all leaders, saying, “When the leadership is guided by God, they will be able to lead effectively.”
Makinde also highlighted the launch of the Legacy Compact, a performance-measurement framework designed to ensure key projects across different sectors are completed before the end of his administration.
“To achieve all these, the people’s support is paramount. So, I call on residents of Oyo State to keep faith with us, as we continue to serve their best interests,” he said.
“Happy Hijrah and may Allah SWT bless you all, as you begin the New Year,” he concluded.
