No Sacrifice Too Big For Peace In Rivers, Says Gov Fubara

Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that no sacrifice is too great in the pursuit of peace, stability, and progress in the state.

Speaking to his supporters in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Governor Fubara emphasized that every decision he has taken, including the recent reconciliation with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was made in the collective interest of the people of Rivers State.

Fubara acknowledged the disappointment and anxiety felt by many of his loyalists following the peace agreement, but stressed that difficult times often require difficult decisions and compromises.

He clarified that the reconciliation was not a unilateral decision, noting that he engaged in extensive consultations with key stakeholders and trusted allies within his political base before finalizing the peace process.

The governor admitted that the new political realities may be difficult for some to accept, especially for those who stood with him during the political crisis. However, he reiterated that the overarching priority remains the peace and unity of Rivers State.

Fubara also highlighted how the political crisis had hampered the progress of several development projects across the state, expressing hope that the peace accord would pave the way for the swift resumption of those initiatives.

Addressing the tensions surrounding the reconciliation, the governor acknowledged Wike’s role in his emergence as governor, stating that the political history between them cannot be erased.

He called on his supporters to continue demonstrating loyalty and trust in his leadership, even when immediate political gains are not apparent.

Governor Fubara further revealed that President Bola Tinubu played a key role in brokering the peace deal, issuing a clear directive for both him and the FCT Minister to reconcile in the interest of the state.

In his closing remarks, the governor urged all Rivers people who believe in his vision to embrace peace and unity, emphasizing that it is time for the state to heal and move forward to greater development.
