The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a warning to students and the general public to beware of a fake loan application portal and fraudulent messages circulating online.

In a statement released in Abuja on Monday, the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, described the messages as misleading and intended to deceive unsuspecting applicants.

“The attention of NELFUND has been drawn to a fraudulent message currently circulating online, falsely claiming that President Bola Tinubu has directed the reopening of the NELFUND Student Loan portal,” the statement read.

The fake message includes a link to a bogus website: https://nelfund-student-loan-2025.po-rt-al.com/NELFUND/.

“We wish to categorically state that this website is FAKE, and the information contained in the message is false and misleading,” Oluwatuyi added.

She emphasized that the only official portal for the NELFUND Student Loan Application is: https://nelf.gov.ng.

The public, especially students, parents, and guardians, were strongly advised not to click on unverified links or provide personal or financial information on suspicious websites.

Oluwatuyi reaffirmed NELFUND’s commitment to transparency, safety, and fairness in the student loan application process, noting that all official announcements would only be made through the Fund’s verified platforms.

She also urged anyone who encounters suspicious messages or websites to report them to the Fund via email at info@nelf.gov.ng.

In addition, students were encouraged to connect with NELFUND through its official social media handles:

Instagram: @nelfund
