LG Polls: Gov Sanwo-Olu Votes, Urges Peaceful Participation

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State cast his vote on Saturday at 11:09 a.m. at Polling Unit 006, Saint Stephens Nursery and Primary School, Lagos Island Local Government, during the ongoing local government elections across the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arrived at Ward E3, Polling Unit 006, at about 7:30 a.m. to commence the process.

Accompanied by his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the governor acknowledged some early logistical issues in parts of the state but assured that they had been resolved.

“Everything is okay here,” Sanwo-Olu said after casting his ballot. “Although the unit is heavily populated, voting is progressing well, and the officers are present. I’ve voted successfully. Party agents are here, and it’s extremely peaceful.”

He also noted some delays experienced by electoral officers reaching their designated polling units but expressed appreciation for the prevailing calm and favourable weather conditions.

“I commend LASIEC. This election is very important, and I believe results will be compiled later in the day,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu emphasised the significance of the local government tier in delivering grassroots development and public services, describing it as the closest form of governance to the people.

“It is vital people realise this is the closest government to them. I’ve fulfilled my civic responsibility,” he said.

The governor encouraged Lagosians to participate in the polls, reiterating the peaceful nature of the process.

“I know there were some initial logistics hiccups at certain polling units, but I understand those have now been addressed. Let’s continue to come out in large numbers and vote,” he urged.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission is conducting elections across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
