Poland’s Iga Swiatek claimed her first Wimbledon title on Saturday with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory over American Amanda Anisimova in the women’s singles final.
The match, played at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in southwest London, lasted just 57 minutes as Swiatek delivered a near-flawless performance to clinch her sixth Grand Slam title. With the win, the 24-year-old becomes the eighth consecutive first-time women’s champion at Wimbledon since Serena Williams last won in 2016.
Swiatek, the tournament’s eighth seed, entered the final in top form, having lost only one set throughout the competition. She had also reached the final at the Bad Homburg Open earlier this month, showing significant improvement on grass courts.
Despite high expectations for 13th seed Anisimova, especially after her stunning semi-final upset over world number one Aryna Sabalenka, the American was no match for Swiatek. Anisimova struggled with nerves early on and never recovered. She was broken in the opening game and quickly fell behind 4-0 before Swiatek sealed the first set in just 25 minutes.
Anisimova won only six points on her serve in the opening set and committed 14 unforced errors. Her difficulties continued into the second set, including another double fault in the third game, giving Swiatek the upper hand.
The crowd attempted to rally behind Anisimova, but Swiatek remained focused and clinical, completing a rare double-bagel victory. After sealing the match, Swiatek celebrated the milestone before embracing her visibly emotional opponent.
The trophy, the Venus Rosewater Dish, was presented to Swiatek by Catherine, Princess of Wales.
