Nottingham Forest striker and Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, has returned to full training after recovering from a serious abdominal injury that kept him out of action since May.

The 27-year-old suffered a ruptured intestine, which required a complex two-stage surgical procedure. Following the initial operation, Awoniyi was placed in an induced coma to allow for close medical observation. The second phase of the surgery, which involved closing the wound, was successfully carried out on the third day of his hospitalisation.

Awoniyi’s long recovery process has now culminated in a return to training with his teammates. In a post on Tuesday via X, Soar Super Eagles confirmed the development, stating, “Taiwo Awoniyi returns to full training after that serious abdominal injury in May. Great to see him back on the grass.”

His return comes as a welcome boost to both Nottingham Forest and the Nigerian national team ahead of the new season.

Awoniyi last featured in a match in early May before the injury forced him to the sidelines. His comeback is expected to strengthen the Super Eagles’ attacking options as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures.
