The Spanish government has called for an investigation into Barcelona footballer Lamine Yamal’s 18th birthday celebration following allegations of exploitation and discriminatory practices during the event.
Yamal, who marked his milestone birthday on July 13 with a mafia-themed party attended by around 200 guests, is under fire after reports emerged that women with specific breast sizes were paid to attend the event, and individuals with dwarfism were allegedly used as part of the entertainment.
Social media model Claudia Calvo claimed the Barcelona star arranged for 12 women to attend based on appearance criteria, sparking public outrage. In response, Spain’s General Director of Disability, Jesús Martín, condemned the act and requested ministers to approve a full probe into the incident. He stated, “We are concerned that people with money, people with power, believe themselves to be unpunished. The law is for everyone, for the humble and for the powerful.”
The Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias with Dwarfism (ADEE) also expressed outrage and vowed to pursue legal action. In a statement, the group said: “The ADEE, a member organisation of the Spanish Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities, condemns and publicly denounces the hiring of people with dwarfism as part of the entertainment at the recent 18th birthday party of soccer player Lamine Yamal.”
The association further described the party’s arrangement as a violation of ethical standards and disability rights.
According to Marca, Yamal could face a fine of up to £867,000 if found guilty of any wrongdoing. Authorities continue to evaluate the incident amid calls for stronger enforcement of anti-discrimination laws and protection of vulnerable groups.
Yamal, a rising star in international football, has yet to issue a public statement on the matter.
