The All Progressives Congress (APC) has received over 66,741 defectors from various opposition parties, including the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Dutse, Jigawa State capital.
Speaking at the occasion, the Party’s Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Sani Gumel promised to give them equal treatment as the same to all other members of the party.
Among the defectors to the ruling party, a member of the NNPP, Alhaji Aminu Jahun, while speaking, said that he decamped to APC with all his supporters to ensure victory of the party in 2027.
Also speaking, Alhaji Yusuf Shitu Galambi, who is a member of the NNPP, said they decamped to APC because of fairness and justification of the Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi.
He, however described him as an exemplary leader who is doing justice to all, and will ensured that his people who decamped to APC will vote President Bola Tinubu and Namadi in 2027 to ensure victory of the party.
On the defection of PDP, NNPP and other opposition parties members to the ruling party, dignitaries were left stranded as the State governor failed to show up at the ceremony as scheduled by 2pm.
Namadi who later arrived the venue around 5:22pm, while many people had left, as it was observed that the majority of the defectors also became stranded because the ceremony did not commenced at the scheduled time
However, as at around 06:30pm in the evening, the ceremony ground became very porous with only few people, parties loyalist and government officials remained at the event.
It was reliably gathered that party supporters from all the 27 Local Government Areas stormed Dutse Stadium to witness the event but left as early as 4:00pm due to inability of Namadi to be present at the scheduled time.
The occasion witnessed people from Yobe, Katsina, Bauchi and Kano States to received the defectors to the APC.
