Augustine Eguavoen, caretaker coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has rejected rumors suggesting he has stepped down from his role.

Upon his return to Nigeria from the recent match in Rwanda, Eguavoen emphasized, “Whatever people are reading out there is not correct, I am still in charge.”

As the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Eguavoen stated it is his responsibility to manage the Super Eagles at this moment.

“I only mentioned that I would sit down with the hierarchy of the federation after these two games to discuss our approach for the next matches,” he clarified.

Eguavoen expressed disappointment over the dissemination of inaccurate information, stating, “It’s quite unfortunate that people are spreading incorrect stories. In our current situation, we don’t need negative reports.”

Under Eguavoen’s guidance, the Super Eagles:

– Secured a 3-0 victory against Benin
– Were held to a goalless draw by Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday

The team currently leads Group D of the 2025 AFCON qualification series with four points from two matches.
