Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has declared Monday, October 7, 2024, as a work-free day for teachers in the state to commemorate this year’s Teachers’ Day. Schools within the state are expected to resume academic activities on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Abiodun made this announcement on Saturday during the celebration held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the state capital. The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Ogun State chapter, also reminded its members about the holiday in a notice shared on Sunday.
At the event, the governor approved the construction of 12 blocks of 900 smart classrooms in four schools across the state, specifically Abeokuta Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Remo Secondary School, and Yewa College. This development aims to boost the education sector in Ogun State.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Abiodun noted the implementation of the Ogun Digitalised Multimedia Lesson Plan, the Central Education Management Information System, and the approval of the Ogun State Education Intervention Fund. He also mentioned the successful conduct of the BECE with Optical Mark Reader sheets and the installation of ICT facilities for the Nigeria Learning Passport.
Additionally, Abiodun announced plans to complete abandoned schools and projects from 2018 and 2019. He explained that his office identified issues with previous projects, including unrealistic pricing and schools being built in areas that weren’t prioritized. A new work plan for UBEC has been approved to address these concerns and focus on the worst-affected schools.
This move is part of Abiodun’s efforts to improve education in Ogun State, demonstrating his commitment to the sector’s development.
