President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kassim Shettima met with the governors of the 36 states and ministers to discuss a new minimum wage for workers and other economic matters.
The meeting was part of the 141st National Economic Council (NEC) in Abuja.
This comes after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) stepped down a minimum wage review memo to allow for more consultations.
The governors met in Abuja on Wednesday to discuss the minimum wage for workers.
The federal government and private sector are proposing a minimum wage of N62,000, while labor is demanding N250,000.
Labour leaders have been threatening to embark on a nationwide strike if their demands are not met.
The meeting with the governors and ministers is seen as a way to address the looming strike and find a solution to the minimum wage impasse.
The NEC meeting also discussed other economic matters, including the state of the nation’s economy, revenue generation, and allocation.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, the Head of Service, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, among others.
President Tinubu has been holding series of meetings with stakeholders in the economy to find solutions to the economic challenges facing the country.
The President had earlier met with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to discuss the minimum wage and other economic issues.
The meeting with the governors and ministers is a follow-up to the earlier meeting with labour leaders.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to be made public soon.
