Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Dutch international midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for a reported fee of £46.3 million ($62.4 million).
The 26-year-old becomes City’s fourth signing of the week and is eligible to feature in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. Reijnders, who joined AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023, impressed during the 2024/25 season, scoring 15 goals for the Italian side.
Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Reijnders expressed his excitement about joining the Premier League giants.
“I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City. City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities,” he said.
His arrival bolsters Pep Guardiola’s midfield options following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne. Reijnders has signed a five-year deal with the club.
Manchester City had a relatively disappointing season by their standards, finishing third in the Premier League and exiting the UEFA Champions League early. The club’s hierarchy had admitted shortcomings in transfer activities last season. City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak recently stated that the club “probably should have been more aggressive” in the previous transfer window.
This summer, the club has been actively reshaping the squad. Earlier in the week, City secured deals for Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki, Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, and Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri. These additions follow January signings of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Vitor Reis.
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, also commented on the club’s latest acquisition.
“We are very happy that Tijjani has joined us and we’re excited for him to join Pep’s squad. He arrives here with extensive top-level experience in Europe, both at club level as well as on the international stage with the Netherlands. Tijjani adds extra energy, composure and creativity to our midfield and working with Pep and our coaches will only see him go from strength to strength.”
Manchester City will head to the newly expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in the United States as defending champions. They begin their campaign on June 18 against Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia.
