Grealish Left Out Of Man City Squad For Club World Cup

Jack Grealish’s future at Manchester City has come under further scrutiny after he was left out of Pep Guardiola’s squad for the upcoming Club World Cup.

Despite Manchester City naming only 27 players out of a possible 35 for the tournament, which kicks off in the United States on June 14, Grealish was not included. Former captain Kyle Walker was also omitted from the squad.

Meanwhile, all four of the club’s recent signings – Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijani Reijnders, and Marcus Bettinelli – have been selected for the tournament.

Ballon d’Or winner Rodri is also part of the squad, having returned from a long-term knee injury shortly before the end of the Premier League season.

Grealish, who became City’s record signing with a £100 million ($135 million) move from Aston Villa in 2021, has seen limited game time in recent seasons. He made just seven Premier League starts during the 2024/25 campaign and was left on the bench during City’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final last month.

The 29-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract, with his reported £300,000-a-week ($405,000) wages posing a challenge to any potential transfer.

Manager Pep Guardiola had previously indicated that he might consider leaving the club if the squad size was not reduced ahead of the new season. Grealish and Walker are among several players expected to depart.

Walker, 35, spent the latter half of last season on loan at AC Milan, but the Italian club has opted not to make the move permanent.

Manchester City will begin their Club World Cup campaign against Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia next Wednesday. They are also set to face Al Ain of Abu Dhabi and Juventus in the group stage.
