Controversial social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, has criticised Nigerian music stars Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid for flaunting their recent acquisitions of multi-billion naira luxury cars amid the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
The criticism follows the news of Burna Boy purchasing a new McLaren Sienna car worth N3.5 billion, making him the first person in Africa to acquire the vehicle. Shortly after, Davido reportedly acquired a 2026 Mercedes Maybach SL 680 valued at N1.2 billion. This comes months after Wizkid also bought a car reportedly worth N1.7 billion.
Reacting in a viral Instagram video, VeryDarkMan accused the artists of being insensitive to the plight of ordinary Nigerians, particularly their fans. He questioned their contributions to their home communities and the broader Nigerian society.
“Yesterday I saw the news that Burna Boy bought a N3.5 billion car. The same yesterday Davido bought a car of over N1 billion. They have been doing these,” he said.
He continued, “The question I have for Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido is: don’t you people read the room? Don’t you see the condition of the country you come from? You guys are not the government, but I just need to say this.”
Directing his message to Davido, whom he described as a close associate, VeryDarkMan questioned his impact on his hometown in Osun State.
“Let me start with Davido because you are my guy. What can you beat your chest to say you have done for the people of Osun State that you come from?
“What is your contribution to the growth of Nigeria? Because you have benefited from Nigeria and your fans. What can your fans say they have benefited from you? The last time I saw your video from Osun was when your uncle was contesting for governor and you needed to help him secure votes. But after that, what have you built that benefited the youths?”
