Afrobeat singer and songwriter, Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has opened up about the deep personal losses that inspired his new song, Al-Jannah.
Speaking in a podcast interview, Kizz Daniel revealed the close bond he shared with his late father and how that relationship influenced the tribute track.
“When my dad was alive, he was my best friend,” the singer said.
The title Al-Jannah, which means “paradise,” reflects the song’s tribute to loved ones lost. According to Kizz Daniel, the track was not just dedicated to one person, but to all the important people he and his family have lost over the years.
“We’ve lost people in the past. We lost our son in 2021. I lost my dad in 2015; my wife lost her mum in 2024; I lost my step-mum. We lost a whole lot of people,” he shared.
The singer said he aimed to create a song that would resonate with everyone who has experienced the pain of losing someone dear, saying, “I wanted to make a song for everyone, not just one person. It’s about our loved ones we have lost in this journey of life.”
Kizz Daniel explained that using the word friend in the song helped him convey the universal feeling of loss and remembrance.
He lost his father on May 9, 2015, just a few days after his 21st birthday.
