Ganduje’s Resignation Part Of APC’s Evolution – Governors’ Forum

The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), comprising governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, as a natural development in the party’s continued evolution.

In a communiqué issued at the end of their two-day strategic meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, on Saturday, the governors stated that the leadership change aligns with the party’s commitment to internal reforms and institutional growth.

Reading the communiqué, PGF Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, said the meeting served as a crucial platform to harmonise development strategies and reinforce party cohesion.

“This meeting provided a crucial platform to harmonise development strategies, reinforce party cohesion, and reaffirm our Forum’s dedication to people-centred development, institutional accountability, and inter-governmental collaboration,” Uzodimma said.

He added that Ganduje’s resignation reflects the APC’s structured approach to political growth, describing it as “a strategic move within the party’s framework rather than a crisis.”

The communiqué, signed by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, highlighted the party’s record of reforms, electoral victories, and commitment to national unity, positioning it as the most coherent political platform in the country.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the official reception of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, into the APC. The governors welcomed his defection and that of his supporters as a reflection of growing confidence in the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The PGF reviewed the nation’s economic, social, and political conditions and expressed satisfaction with renewed synergy between federal and state institutions. They praised federal initiatives targeting fiscal reform, food security, energy transition, infrastructure, and social sector development.

They acknowledged the gains from macroeconomic policies such as fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and debt restructuring, while urging for increased investments in food security, job creation, poverty reduction, support for MSMEs, and expansion of social safety nets.

Reaffirming the role of sub-national governments in driving economic renewal, the Forum committed to advancing economic decentralisation in accordance with Section 13 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The governors also applauded the recent rise in fiscal allocations to states and the increase in domestic and foreign direct investments in APC-led states, citing it as evidence of improved business environments.

The PGF concluded by reiterating its support for the national government’s agenda and pledged to continue promoting people-focused governance across the country.
