Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a car crash at the age of 28.
The accident occurred in the Spanish province of Zamora and also claimed the life of his brother, Andre Silva, who was 26. Silva was a professional footballer for Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel.
Jota had recently married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children. The couple’s wedding took place on 22 June, and Jota had shared photos of the ceremony on social media.
Jota played a key role in helping Liverpool win the Premier League title last season and also contributed to Portugal’s Nations League victory in June.
