Real Madrid claimed a record sixth UEFA Super Cup title with a 2-0 victory over Atalanta in Warsaw on Wednesday. Kylian Mbappe scored on his Real Madrid debut, while Fede Valverde broke the deadlock in the 59th minute.
Mbappe, who signed with Real Madrid this summer, celebrated his first appearance with a goal in the 68th minute, sealing the win for Los Blancos. The French forward’s movement and finish impressed, and he was given an ovation by Madrid’s fans when substituted in the 83rd minute.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s team dominated the second half, with Valverde’s close-range finish and Mbappe’s strike securing the win. Atalanta, appearing in their first Super Cup, held their own in the first half but couldn’t withstand Madrid’s pressure after the break.
Ancelotti equaled former Los Blancos coach Miguel Munoz’s record 14 titles won at the helm of the club. The Italian coach’s next challenge is designing a system to get the best out of his attacking stars, including Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo Goes.
The win marks a strong start to the season for Real Madrid, who will look to build on this success in the coming weeks.
