The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Ogun state chapter has commended the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun for the approval of N77,000 minimum wage to Ogun state workers, the highest so far announced in the country.

In a statement made available to newsmen, signed by its Chairman, Comrade Waheed Oloyede and Secretary, Bola Lawal, the Union noted that the gesture is a true testimony of the sincerity of purpose, and consideration towards the workforce of the state.

It added that the gesture will propel the workers to be more productive to further enhance the economic and social status of the state.

It however decry the paltry sum being received by most pensioners at the moment, saying that it is grossly inadequate to purchase drugs for various health challenges, talk less of meeting with the demands of the present day economic challenges in the wake of the fuel subsidy removal.

The Union therefore called on the state governor, to approve its’ request of the long awaited consequential increase in pensions in line with the 2019 federal government circular on consequential adjustment of pensions.

“In addition to the above, your Excellency, we would be eternally and exceedingly grateful if the new wage increase can be extended to the benefit of we, the Ogun pensioners in accordance with section 210(3) of the constitution of the 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) or approval be made for increase in pensions whenever new wage increase occurs”, the statement reads.
