One Dead, Three Rescued In Lagos Building Collapse

Tragedy struck on Sunday afternoon in the Idi Araba area of Mushin, Lagos State, when a one-storey building under construction collapsed, killing one construction worker and injuring three others.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM at 96 Ishaga Road, opposite Idi Araba Central Mosque.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Lagos Territorial Office Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the casualty figure, stating, “So far, one person has been confirmed dead, while three others have been rescued alive. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.”

Shakiru Amodu, spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, also confirmed the fatality, while the agency’s Director, Margaret Adeseye, noted that the three rescued male victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were treated on site before being transferred to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

The cause of the building collapse is yet to be officially determined, but emergency officials continue to warn against poor construction practices and inadequate supervision on building sites.

Rescue operations remain active at the site.
