K1 De Ultimate: My Mother Was Denied Chance To Sing Because She Was A Princess

Legendary Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has revealed that his late mother, Princess Halima Anifowoshe, was a key influence in shaping his music career.

Speaking on a podcast promoting his latest album, Ganusi: The Album Fuji Classical, the 68-year-old veteran said his mother not only taught him the fundamentals of music but also contributed as a composer throughout her life.

K1 explained that the track “Mama” from the album was specially dedicated to honour her memory and sacrifices.

“The song ‘Mama’ is in memory of my mother, who also taught me the rudiments of music and singing,” he said. “As a young maiden, she was a singer and a princess by birth. But she was denied the opportunity to pursue music because of her royal status and the cultural expectations placed on her as a woman meant to settle in marriage.”

K1 De Ultimate described how his mother’s passion and musical abilities were passed on to him, adding that her influence helped shape his success.

“Everything about her talent was transferred to me by God. She often served as my composer during her lifetime. She contributed immensely to my musical development, and I believe it’s only right to honour her with a dedicated track.”

K1 De Ultimate lost his mother, Princess Halima Anifowoshe, in January 2025.
