[BREAKING] Edo Election: Police Walk Gov Obaseki Out of INEC’s Office

Benin City – In a dramatic turn of events, Governor Godwin Obaseki was forcibly removed from the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin by DIG Frank Mba at approximately 4:10 am.

Obaseki had entered the premises unannounced around 2 am, allegedly to protest anomalies in the collation of results from some local government areas, including his Oredo.

INEC officials reportedly informed Obaseki that he was not supposed to be there, as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo had been sent back earlier.

However, Obaseki insisted on staying.

At 3 am, a combined team of policemen led by DIG Frank Mba and soldiers entered the premises.

By 4:10 am, Obaseki was escorted out by security personnel, who shouted, “Leave, leave.”

Minutes earlier, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretary Surajudeen Basiru addressed journalists, stating that Obaseki had no reason to be on the premises.

Basiru described Obaseki’s actions as an abuse of office, saying, “He is not a candidate. He has no reason to be here.”

Earlier, APC members led by Monday Okpebholo’s running mate, Honourable Dennis Idahosa, protested outside the INEC office, demanding Obaseki’s exit.

Idahosa shouted, “Obaseki must come out. He is not supposed to be here. He is not an INEC staff. Nigeria Police should not compromise.”

Protesters attempted to gain entrance but were prevented by security personnel.
